It is true that Jesus is of more importance than anything or anyone else, but during your algebra class, it would be a good idea to focus on your teacher’s instructions. And when you get your driver’s license, let me suggest you focus on the road. But, kidding aside, I understand your question.
As we mature as followers of Jesus Christ, we find ourselves constantly in His presence. I am an older pastor and I’ve walked with Jesus for a long time. I can sense His presence at about any given time—even when I am playing guitar or having dinner with my daughter or answering questions through this ministry. The longer we walk with Him and the more we grow in our knowledge and understanding of Him, the more we realize His nearness. Of course, there old Christians who are spiritually immature that would have no idea of what I am saying and there are young believers who already understand this close kinship with our Savior. Age alone does not cause us to grow.
Please hear me—Jesus loves you very much. He has such grand and wonderful plans for your life. He is not sitting in Heaven thinking harsh thoughts of you. He is not waiting for you to make a mistake so that He can hurl a lightning bolt down upon your head. He loves you! He wants to enjoy a close relationship with you. But He also wants you to focus on your family, your education, your day to day responsibilities, and even your hobbies and leisure time activities. What He does not want is for family, friends, studies, and hobbies to become of supreme importance.
I have a twenty-four year old daughter. Let me tell you about my Hannah. She is amazing. I love that girl with all my heart. When I hear her voice, my heart leaps. She lives in another city, so I do not see her or hear from her every day, but that does not matter. Hannah is my girl. I love her more than I love my own life. With that said, are you convinced that this old guy loves his daughter? Now imagine that God loves you a thousand times more than I am capable of loving my daughter! With that kind of selflessly pure love, do you honestly think our Heavenly Father is glaring down from Heaven and thinking ill thoughts of you? Of course, not! He loves you, kid! You are the apple of His eye!
God is King of the Universe. The daughter of a king is a princess. So live like a princess and do not go groveling about like a dirty-faced orphan. Live in the confidence of His divine love!
Let’s give God credit for being an awesome, loving Father and not a grouchy old deity. Are you with me? I hope you are.
Live like you are loved, because you are loved!
That’s all I have to say!
